Detail from "Laocoon" - Vatican Museums, Vatican City, Rome, Italy.

Note: In 1905, the archeologist Pollack discovered a fragment in a marble cutting shop that he felt was from the Laocoon. Pollack proposed that the 1532 restoration by Montrosoli was in error. Ignored until 1957 when additional fragments were found, a new restoration and replacement of the Montrosoli right arm was realized. The composition is now more harmonious. Note that a bronze copy of the unrestored group was made for Francis I of France and can be seen in the Louvre Museum.
